SHEETROCK® & Belmore Tools Brand ProTool Spray Applied Finishing Compound - Application

Surface Preparation
All Substrate must be sound, dry, clean and free of oil, grease, mildew, efflorescence, dust and other surface contaminants. Concrete and plaster surfaces should be thoroughly dry and cured.
Glossy surfaces must be treated with an appropriate bonding agent prior to application.
Product, air, and surface temperatures must be maintained at a minimum of 10°C (55 °F) throughout the finishing process.

New Drywall
New drywall should be finished to a minimum level 4 finish (as per GA 214-96, DWFC Recommendations, Brand 402). Treat all joints, fasteners, and accessories with a recommended SHEETROCK® Brand Joint Treatment System. Fill all nicks, voids, and grooves with SHEETROCK® Brand Joint Compounds.

Concrete & Plaster
Concrete surfaces should be allowed to age at least 60 days prior to application. Remove all form oils and efflorescence and grind down form lines. Fill cracks and holes, and level any uneven concrete surfaces with SHEETROCK® Brand Joint Compounds. and let dry. Remove all dust and loose debris prior to application.

Mixing
For best results, mix the compound gently to avoid over-agitation by using an electric hand held stirrer until a smooth consistency is achieved, and the material is ready for use. Alternatively, an appropriate hand mixing devise can be used to mix the material. Do not mix with any other products. Does not need to be diluted.

Application
To achieve a smooth surface with airless spray application, use professional equipment that meets or exceeds the following rating when spraying through 15 m of 6 or 9,5 mm i.d. high-pressure hose: pump pressure rated at 159-207 bar; and accommodates up to 0.031” spray tip at 138-152 bar. WAGNER HC 940 or HC 960 or Graco GMax 5900 or GMax 7900 are examples of specified airless pumping equipment.

If so remove filter located in the high-pressure manifold. Use a spray tip orifice between 0.023” to 0.031”. It is recommended to use a Graco Contractor Gun and Contractor FTx Gun RAC V SwitchTip and HandTite Tip Guard spray gun or equivalent that accommodates a Graco RAC V 423 (0.023”), RAC V 425 (0.025”), RAC V 427 (0.027”), RAC V 429 (0.029”), or RAC V 431 (0.031”) tip. Larger orifice tips spray faster, while smaller orifice tips give a smoother surface.

To achieve textured surfaces, use an appropriate texture spray gun for orange peel, splatter and splatter/knockdown finishes.

Test the spray pattern prior to application. To apply, hold spray gun perpendicular to the surface approximately 45 to 60 cm away. Move the gun parallel to the surface at a steady rate. Lap each stroke approximately 50% over the previous stroke for uniform thickness. Spray from left to right to scratch in the initial coat at approximately half of the desired thickness. Then crosshatch spray up and down as the double-up coat to the desired thickness.
When painting corners, aim the gun toward the center of the corner to ensure both sides are sprayed evenly. When used in lieu of a skim coat, apply 15 to 30 mils (0.38mm to 0.76mm) WFT (wet film thickness) on smooth to semi-smooth surfaces and 25 to 50 mils (0.64mm to 1.27mm) WFT on semi rough to rough surfaces. Application thickness will vary, coats up to a maximum of 60 mils (2.1mm) WFT are possible, when applied in accordance with USG’s instructions.
The maximum WFT (Wet Film Thickness) per cross hatch is 0.51mm (20 mils).

Drying Time:
Fast dry time. Dries to touch in approximately 45-60 minutes under normal drying conditions (24°C/50% RH). Allow to fully dry before recoating. High humidity and/or cold temperature will slow drying. Complete drying time is approximately 90 minutes. Fully cure in 24 hours.

Decoration
Allow the material to fully dry and sand smooth with 220 grit, or finer, sand paper as needed to finish the surface. Overpaint surface with an appropriate primer like SHEETROCK® Brand FIRST COAT and a finish paint system. Unpainted surfaces are not washable or scrubbable.

Cleanup
Clean tools with water immediately after use and before material hardens.

Coverage:
Approximately 1,5 m²/kg @ 0,51 mm WFT (20 Mil). Coverage will vary depending upon dilution, spray thickness and substrate uniformity.

Storage:
Store compound in protected place, because extreme heat or cold accelerates ageing. Rotate stock on first-in, first-out basis.

Density: ~ 1,2 kg/l

Limitations:
1. Product is not suitable for roller application. Finished surface should be painted with an appropriate interior primer/finish paint system. Unfinished surfaces are not washable or scrubbable. Over dilution can lead to running of material during application.  The temperature must exceed 10°C (55 °F) during product application and curing

2. Should not be applied over moist surfaces, surfaces likely to become moist, below-grade surfaces, or surfaces projecting outside of the structure (unless protected from direct exposure to moisture).

3. Before using over new interior concrete surfaces, allow concrete to age 60 days or more. Remove protrusions, ridges, forms, parting oils, grease and efflorescence.

4. Prior to using any epoxy coating over any surface treated with joint compound, consult the epoxy coating manufacturer and follow manufacturer’s specific recommendations regarding the preparation or suitability of substrates for the epoxy coating. Many epoxy coatings exert significant shear stress on the substrate as the strong epoxy film shrinks while curing/drying. This stress can cause the bond of the joint compound to fail, resulting in delamination problems.

Airlessco SL1500 Smooth Wall Sprayer
ITEM # AIR301678
The smooth wall solution. Spray mud like paint.
The SL1500 delivers the legendary durability of the Airlessco SL “Slow Stroker” pump designed to deliver the spraying power needed for high volume output with very heavy coatings.
The 1500 is powered by a dependable fan-cooled, 1.25 HP totally enclosed DC motor. The heavy duty gearbox and crankshaft are so sturdy, you might think you are looking at a small automobile engine! A quiet, maintenance free toothed belt is used for the motor drive.
The heart of any contractor sprayer is the pump, and the durability of the SL “Slow Stroker” piston pump is legendary amongst pro painters. It features an extra-long hardened stainless steel piston. the 1500 has the foot valve at the bottom of the pump generating the extremely high suction required when applying heavy materials like drywall mud.
Durability is enhanced by a large, tungsten carbide ball and reversible seat. Airlessco’s patented externally adjustable triple life packings are the only packing system with external adjustment of both upper and lower packings. No getting stuck on the job with blown packings and a sprayer full of material about to harden!
  Sturdy ball bearing supported crankshaft
